Why Do People Think That Metal is “The Devil’s Music?”
Abbie’s Reply…
Metal has always been associated as anti-establishment music. Elvis was filmed from the waste up because of his dance moves. The Beatles were condemned for their hair and style. Many of the early bands and rock-stars such as Hendrix and Jim Morrison died of drug overdose. It has been stigmatized.
However, I was a long haired rocker of the 80’s. The first time I walked into a church and heard Contemporary Christian Music, I was sold. Psalms says make a joyful noise, not play only with a harp and pipe organ. I stopped going to church as an adult because I couldn’t stomach 12th Century pipe organ music. Like many others, I feel connected to God when rocking with a Marshall Amp turned to 11! Music is what you make it!
Please sound off and give me your opinion!
Abbie,
I believe that people need to realize that it is okay to connect with something other than “12th Century pipe music.” If you feel connected to God through rock or metal, that is real and sacred to you. When those feelings come; they are your truth and your path.
