Netflix and Amazon Prime: Exciting Alternatives to Cable

Fade in: It was a dark and stormy night, eerily quiet.  Only the screech of the hinges on the mailbox broke the silence.  After cowering in the corner of my living room and working up all the courage I had did I venture out to see what the postal worker had delivered.  Expecting to find a coiled asp or hive of wasps, I was relieved to see that is was a simple envelope. Jillian - Staff Writer - Rockin' God's House.com However, upon opening the letter in what once was the safety of my own home I saw the dreaded cable bill, demanding staggering payment and/or my firstborn child!  Fade to black.

Okay, so it was never that dramatic, and no one ever came right out and requested my firstborn, but my cable bill never failed to shock me. When I saw that Netflix was offering a large selection of streaming movies and television shows for just $7.99 a month, I canceled my cable and signed up.  I sometimes miss seeing new shows right as they air, but I do not regret my decision.

With Netflix, you are able to stream video through you Wii, Xbox, Roku, Apple TV, computer, and many other devices- all you need is an internet connection.  There are so many excellent television shows, movies and documentaries available that my biggest problem with Netflix is deciding what to watch!

I am also lucky enough to have received Amazon Prime as a gift.  Aside from the other numerous benefits, I can stream Amazon Prime Instant Video on my devices along with my Netflix!  There is quite a bit of overlap in the choices offered for each service, but there are also quite a few viewing options that are available only on one or the other.

As a believer in these services instead of cable, I will be making weekly recommendations for viewing options.  Stay tuned and don’t count on waiting for a commercial break– with Netflix and Amazon, there won’t be any.
