Ask Abbie: Church Burnout? Feel Like Giving Up? Change The World And “Be the One”!
I’ve been a worship leader for years. I got into it because I wanted to affect others and bring them to Christ. I feel as if all I’m doing is going through the motions each week. I’m considering moving to another field within ministry. Any suggestions?
Abbie’s Reply:
We often enter specific Christian fields to affect others, just as most doctors enter medicine motivated to make a difference. Often, the bureaucracy of any hierarchy changes our perspective, leaving us disappointed and disillusioned because we don’t notice the results of our efforts. Obviously, you should prayerfully consider where God wants you within His will and ministry! However, my gut is telling me that you’re going to hit the same brick wall no matter where you go.
Here’s a thought: “Be The One!” Several great people have represented Christ throughout history and have created a ripple effect throughout the present and future. Even in current day, Martin Luther King Jr., Billy Graham, Joel Olsten… Who led them to Christ?
According to the world, one or several inconsequential individuals shaped and formed the results of those men of God. However, those inconsequential individuals became “The One!” Individuals who have accepted no earthly credit or reward became “The One” who affected that one person, and consequently millions of others.
So often I’ve felt defeated as a representative of Jesus Christ. That is the job of Satan reaping his reward! Our job as Christ-followers is to persevere, remember the end game, and ALWAYS pray for God’s will in your life. Chance is not a factor for those who pray for “His Will Be Done!”
… I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

We are unable to see the big picture or understand the long-term effects of our actions and the consequences from those actions.
Maintain your faith, surround yourself with other believers who inspire you, and remember it is about an audience of One…God! I recently auditioned again for “The Voice” and again got rejected. I could be angry and bitter. However, you suffer a 100% chance of failure if you don’t make the effort. Furthermore, as a Christian, did I really fail?
Pray for His will in your life, make the effort to represent His word, stay humble and without knowing…Be The One!
