90 Minutes in Heaven
Hayden Christensen Plays Don Piper
Hayden Christensen, known for having one of the most iconic roles in film history (Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars II and III), is set to play one of the most inspiring Christians of the 21st century — at least, if you go by book sales. Although Christensen’s latest role will not include any wielding of the Force or light-sabers, it will, however, tell one of the most miraculous (and overtly Christian) true stories in recent times: the jaw-dropping account of Don Piper’s car crash, his “90 Minutes in Heaven” experience, and his harrowing recovery from the crash.
But he won’t be alone. The powerhouse actor Kate Bosworth (“Superman Returns,” “Still Alive,” “Blue Crush”) will be at his side in what might be the most star-studded adaptation of a contemporary Christian book yet to hit the big screen.
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a little while to see it — it comes out sometime in the fall of 2015. Meanwhile, you can read this new press release from the non-profit (yes, non-profit!) film studio about “90 Minutes in Heaven,” the latest Christian-centric film to come down the Hollywood pipeline:
With filming having just wrapped, Giving Films is now preparing for its first major motion picture release this fall: 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN. Based on the inspiring bestseller that tells Pastor Don Piper’s incredible true story, 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN stars Hayden Christensen and Kate Bosworth as Don and Eva Piper. Written and directed by Michael Polish, the film also features Michael W. Smith, Fred Thompson, Jason Kennedy, and Dwight Yoakam.
90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN shares the eternal hope Don Piper has preached about at churches since he died more than 25 years ago. What if the end of life is really only the beginning?
When a semi-tractor truck crushed his car, Don Piper was declared dead by the first rescue workers to arrive on the scene. Incredibly, an hour-and-a-half later, another pastor’s prayers helped bring Don back to life. Yet even with his beloved wife Eva now by his side, this miracle was something Don wished had never occurred.
Excruciating pain and emotional turmoil quickly overtook Heaven’s bliss. With the unwavering support of Eva and their three kids, Don must overcome his anger and bitterness as he clings to his faith in God and fights to regain a semblance of his previous life. The Piper family’s incredible story of perseverance and overcoming life—and death’s—challenges will bring hope and encouragement to all who see it.
Giving Films is a different kind of film company … it’s actually a non-profit ministry! All profits from Giving Films’ movies, starting with their first film 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN, will be donated to charities in the U.S. and around the world.
