The Duck Commander Devotional – A Four Star Review!

Josh Belcher At Rocking Gods HouseMy DVR is loaded with recordings of Duck Dynasty episodes past, present and future. Every Wednesday in recent memory I have dedicated thirty minutes of my afternoon to wholesome family entertainment as I affectionately watch “My Ducks.”

The Robertson Family of A&E’s Duck Dynasty are near and dear to my heart. My genuine Duck Commander duck calls are always nearby as are my Uncle Si official tea glass, official shirts, hats and other apparel. Now they’re filling my house with books. I’ve discovered the joy of reading again thanks to a family of simple-minded country folks who love God and have a passion for the outdoors. They remind me of my own family who live in the hills of Leipers Fork and in the surrounding middle Tennessee area.

I am the proud owner of Phil Robertson’s book Happy Happy Happy, Si Robertson’s book Si-Cology 101, and The Duck Commander Family by Willie and Korie Robertson. I’ve spent hours reading, learning, and enjoying the lessons which fill the pages of these books. If they had a Duck Dynasty trivia night I would, without doubt, be reigning champ.

The most recent book to grace my home shelf is The Duck Commander Devotional by Alan Robertson. It is a 365 day devotional which reflects the heartfelt and softer side of the men and women of the Duck Commander family. The Duck Commander Devotional provides a new devotional for each day of the year. Each day it’s like opening a unique new present while drawing closer to the Lord and his words.

Alan Robertson, the pastor of the family, is at the helm of this book. It includes contributions from his mother Miss Kay and father Phil, along with his brothers Jase, Willie and Jep. The entire Robertson clan contributes to this book, including the two non-family members of the show, Martin and Godwin.

The Duck Commander Devotional is both entertaining and inspirational. The messages of inspiration are chock full of signature Duck Dynasty wit and humor. I give it four out of four stars. It’s perfect for every Duck Dynasty fan who desires to grow their faith and their relationship with God. The Duck Commander Devotional became available on October 15, and will make a great stocking stuffer this holiday season.

I asked Alan Robertson what inspired him to write this devotional. He said, “Howard Books (a subsidiary of Simon & Schuster) approached me about compiling a devotional book from the family and I jumped on [the idea]. Our family loves Bible study and teaching, so it was a perfect fit to get everyone to write down some of their favorite verses and expound a little on how and why these words from God have impacted our lives. We also wanted to close each devotional with a prayer of blessing for the day. With my background of writing, preparing sermons and classes, and doing devotionals, I was the right man for the job. I love the fact that some of the stories are serious and others are funny, just like the family is on Duck Dynasty. I am going to challenge our family to read through The Duck Commander Devotional themselves in 2014 to read what everyone contributed and to be blessed by a daily dose of God’s Word.”
